It's been just over a month now since the move and we are adjusting to life off-grid (no electric, wi-fi, running water, etc.) We're loving it! Our grandson was running through the woods on the animal trails last night screaming, "It's amazing!" And it is. The wildlife: moose, deer, coyote, humming birds, ravens, etc; the wild flowers and berries; the majestic pines; the fabulous view of the stars; the peace and quiet; the freedom; and so much more. Afternoons are hot right now, so we take drives on the back roads with the air conditioning turned up to cool off. Here are some photos of the surrounding area beyond our secluded forest taken during those drives.
We are still in the decision-making process regarding construction, but the house site is chosen and I've cleared some brush and small trees from it. We have rediscovered the pleasures of showering outdoors with water heated by the sun, and even of washing some socks out by hand in our galvinized tub. We did purchase a large generator for electric for a couple of hours in the evening, but I charge my phone and lights with solar power.
To be honest, I thought it would be scarier, but it's not.
Enjoy the photos!
