In 2002, the winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City. The skiing events were outside the city near Park City, winter wonderland with world class skiing. The park is open to the public and includes a very nice museum. If you are in the area, it is a great way to spend your time. The views are great and you might see future Olympians training. While we were there, we watched them grooming some of the runs. Unbelievably, temps were 10 degrees warmer up the mountain than they were down in Salt Lake City, plus, the sun was shining brilliantly. The drive from SLC is not far, under half an hour, and it is an easy drive on I-80. Olympic Park is not far from the highway at all.
If you make the trip, you might want to experience Park City's vibrant shopping and dining area. There was plenty of hustle and bustle, skiers disembarking from the ski lift that ends right in the middle of it all, shoppers, and sight seers, decorations, etc. The most difficult part is choosing where to eat.
